A fifth person has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Jason Romeo in Hackney, east London, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
Mr Romeo was found with stab wounds on Bodney Road at around 6pm on 18 February. Despite emergency services’ efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
On Friday, 19-year-old Joshua Ogedengbe, from Lewisham in southeast London, was charged with murder. He was arrested on Wednesday and is set to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court.
Four other suspects have already been charged in connection with the case:
Raynolph Asante, 22, from Hackney
Travis Mitchell, 22, from Hackney
Rhamyah Bailey-Edwards, 21, from Walthamstow
Renaldo Roberts, 25, from Hackney
All four remain in custody and are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 3 November.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Detective Superintendent Vicky Tunstall of the Central East Command Unit acknowledged local concerns, stating that officers would be carrying out extra patrols in Hackney.
“We understand that the increased police presence in Hackney this week will be concerning for residents,” she said.
“Reducing knife crime is a key focus and we will continue to work closely with partners for a safe borough.”
