A four-year-old girl has tragically died after a suspected arson attack at a house in Manchester, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP). The devastating incident occurred in the Rusholme area at approximately 12:30 GMT when firefighters responded to the blaze.
Emergency responders discovered the child seriously injured inside the burning home. Despite their best efforts, she was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Arson
A 44-year-old woman, reportedly known to the child, has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Authorities confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and no other suspects are being sought at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley expressed her condolences to the girl’s family and friends, describing the incident as “awful.” She assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.

Fire crews from four different stations responded swiftly to the blaze on Gateshead Close, managing to extinguish the flames quickly.
Ben Levy, area manager at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, pledged full cooperation with the police investigation. He extended condolences on behalf of the fire service, stating, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl during this difficult time.”
