Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has earned widespread praise for his heroic intervention when a fellow passenger fell ill during an EasyJet flight from Manchester to Lisbon.
The Premier League star’s quick response was described as “really lovely” after he helped stabilise the situation and ensured the man received the care he needed.
The incident occurred when Fernandes, who was seated on the flight, noticed a man appearing to collapse mid-air. Susanna Lawson, 49, a fellow passenger seated just behind him, initially thought Fernandes had stood up to use the toilet.
However, to her surprise, he rushed over to assist the ailing man, preventing him from falling.
“The other stewards went running up the plane to help and luckily there was a spare seat right at the back, so they all got the gentleman into the seat,” she said.
“Bruno stayed with him, for, I think – I lost track of time – five or 10 minutes.”
“I think it was just, ‘oh my goodness, what are the chances of somebody being poorly right when the Man United captain is standing right in front of you?’,” she added.
After the flight landed, Lawson had the chance to thank Fernandes personally, even taking a selfie with the footballer and his Manchester United teammate, Diogo Dalot, who was also on board.
Despite being a Manchester City supporter, Lawson couldn’t help but express her admiration for Fernandes’ actions.
“I basically said to Bruno, ‘what you did back there was really lovely, it was great that you were there to be able to help’,” she said.
“It’s just nice to be reminded that [celebrities] are just normal people out there.”
