A devastating incident on the A19 at Bagby, North Yorkshire, has claimed the lives of a police officer and a motorist, leaving a community in mourning.
PC Rosie Prior tragically lost her life on Saturday morning while assisting motorists involved in a prior collision. She was struck by an HGV, which also killed Ryan Welford, a 41-year-old from Knaresborough.
A teenage boy, who was a passenger in Mr Welford’s car, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the HGV, a 65-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Heartfelt Tributes and Support
Chief Constable Tim Forber extended his condolences, stating: “We are doing everything we can to support Rosie’s family, as well as the family of the man who was also tragically killed in this incident. This is a deeply traumatic and heartbreaking event for everyone involved. We ask that the families be allowed to grieve in peace.”
PC Prior’s family described her as “a loving mum, wife, daughter, sister, and aunty” who will be “deeply missed.”
Mr Welford’s family paid tribute to him, saying: “Ryan was a hardworking and loving father, husband, son, and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.”
