Major UK restaurant chain Beefeater has confirmed the closure date for all 106 of its restaurants, marking the end of the brand as owner Whitbread moves ahead with a major overhaul of its hospitality business.
All Beefeater restaurants across the UK will permanently close on 10 September. The announcement follows Whitbread’s decision in April to phase out both the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre brands in favour of a new food and beverage concept integrated into its Premier Inn hotels.
The closure date was confirmed this week in a letter sent to members of Beefeater’s loyalty programme, informing customers that the rewards scheme will end on 31 August, ahead of the final restaurant closures.
Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre, said the changes form part of a wider strategy to improve profitability and expand its hotel business. Around 30,000 employees currently work across Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites in the UK and Ireland, many of which are located alongside Premier Inn hotels.
Chief executive Dominic Paul said the company plans to replace its branded restaurants with a streamlined food and beverage offering designed to better meet the needs of hotel guests.
He said the move would also create space for additional hotel rooms, helping Whitbread strengthen its market position and compete more effectively in the hospitality sector.
The company believes the new strategy will improve operational efficiency while supporting future growth, as it seeks to increase its share of the UK hotel market.
Whitbread has previously confirmed that all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre locations will eventually be replaced under the new model, with the first phase concluding when Beefeater restaurants close permanently on 10 September.
