NHS Wales is set to recruit an additional 200 nurses and doctors from Kerala, India, as part of its ongoing partnership with the Indian state.
The Welsh Government emphasised that this move strengthens the ethical recruitment agreement established last year, ensuring a mutually beneficial collaboration.
The NHS workforce in Wales is now at its highest level in history, with nearly 97,000 full-time equivalent staff.
More than 300 healthcare professionals from Kerala have already joined NHS Wales since the agreement was signed in March 2024.
The latest recruits will bring valuable skills and experience, further enhancing healthcare services across Wales.
Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Jeremy Miles, met with the incoming healthcare workers, expressing gratitude for their contributions. He also held discussions with Kerala’s Minister for Health, Veena George, to reinforce the growing partnership.
The recruitment is part of a long-term workforce strategy to build a sustainable NHS, capable of meeting both current and future healthcare demands.
