A 62-year-old British woman has lost her life in the French Alps after a collision with another skier, according to local reports.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning around 10:30 am on the Aiguille Rouge mountain in Savoie.
The woman reportedly collided with a 35-year-old man, also a British national, who was stationary on the ski track, as reported by local news outlet Le Dauphiné.
Emergency services and rescue teams arrived promptly but were unable to save the woman, who succumbed to injuries described as resulting from “traumatic shock.”
Both individuals were skiing on black slopes, the most demanding ski runs characterised by steep inclines and challenging terrain.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued a statement to Sky News, confirming: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in France and are in contact with local authorities.”
The tragedy underscores the inherent risks of skiing on advanced trails and has left the Alpine community and the woman’s family in mourning.
