Foreign diplomats in London now owe almost £165 million in unpaid congestion charges, according to the latest figures from Transport for London (TfL).
The embassies of the United States, China, Japan and India are reported to have the largest outstanding debts, highlighting ongoing challenges in collecting payments from diplomatic vehicles.
TfL has reminded all diplomatic and consular staff that they are not exempt from paying the congestion charge.
The authority confirmed it will continue pursuing any unpaid fees to ensure compliance with London’s traffic and transport regulations.
Unpaid charges from diplomats place a significant financial burden on TfL, which relies on congestion revenues to manage traffic, fund public transport, and maintain London’s roads.
The transport body continues to urge embassies to settle outstanding balances promptly.
